Domestic abuse

The impacts of Domestic Abuse (DA) can be devastating. These effects are often hidden, leaving lasting physical, mental, social, and economic damage which can last a lifetime. It is estimated that the national annual cost of DA is upwards of £66 billion, most notably in costs associated with long-lasting emotional or mental impacts, but also in physical healthcare, policing, criminal justice, and lost productivity.

Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 includes a statutory requirement for local authorities to provide a needs assessment to influence and inform the commissioning of services across a partnership, with oversight from a Local Partnership Board.

  • We have produced the 2023 full domestic abuse needs assessment for Kent, which aims to assist readers in understanding the national picture and local prevalence of domestic abuse in Kent and identify current service provision across the county. It explains Kent’s demographic compared to data provided by local support services.
  • Reports from previous years are also available. The 2022 domestic abuse needs assessment refresh includes prevalence, police-reported cases, multi-agency working, safe accommodation, and homelessness. The second part focuses on children and young people. It explores prevalence, current service provision, models of care, and findings from interviews with children. The 2021 needs assessment update focuses on safe accommodation services in Kent as well as updating key metrics around prevalence and profile. In 2020, the needs assessment examined the prevalence of domestic abuse in Kent & Medway and the impact of abuse on different subgroups in different parts of the county. It also assessed the accessibility and impact of support services for these groups.
