Kidney disease

There is a wide spectrum of kidney disease, which can be rapid onset (acute) or longer term (chronic). Chronic kidney disease is closely related to cardiovascular disease and the two processes often co-exist. People with chronic kidney disease are at a high risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease. Chronic kidney disease is a major public health concern, with rising incidence and prevalence.  In 2024 there were approximately 67,500 people aged 18 years and over who had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in Kent, representing 5.1% of the registered population aged 18 and over (Fingertips).
