Dementia

Dementias are a range of diseases characterised by progressive changes to the brain. They can affect anyone but become more common with age. The number of elderly people with dementia is increasing as people are generally living longer.

Over half of those with dementia have Alzheimer's disease and up to a third have vascular dementia. In 2024, there were approximately 13,000 people diagnosed with dementia in Kent, and a further  9,000 people undiagnosed but living with dementia.
